In the beggining of My freshman year by Rebekah Nathan It talks about how it seems that students attitudes have changed over time and how now students are cheating more, getting ruder and less motivated. I can relate to the part in the short story when it says "why is the expierience of leading class discussions sometimes like pulling teeth." i can relate to this because from my expierence of being a student i have noticed that leading class discussions and getting the class to start a disscusion is always hard. Students never want to be the first one to talk and it usually leads to a lot of awkward silence. Their were also a couple parts of the short story that surprised me one in which was when she talked about how she participated in so many diffrent activities such as sporting event, welcome week and summer previews. This surprised me because when i was a freshman last year i did not do any of those things and hardly could find time to participate in any activities. All in all i found my freshman year to be very interesting and easy to read.
On Ethnography
After reading on Ethnography i found it to be a preety boring read giving the fact that it did not really have a storyline or plot. I did find the information that was in the story to be preety interesting though. one of the things that stuck out to me was the fact that children in Africa are often taught five diffrent languages before they are even old enough to attend school and in school they only use about two of the languages. I also found ethnography to be very informative giving the fact that it talked about how ethnographers research many diffrent languages, take culture into account and address not only written languages but spoken words as well.
